Persian: هست Vs است

    Hi everybody,

    There seems to be a subtle difference between هست and است which I can't quite understand it.
    Can you explain the difference, if any? with a few examples of the usages of these words.

    I would say that "ast" is merely "is" where "hast" has connotations of existence.

    xudaa mihrabaan ast. God is kind.

    Really? With all the tragedies and sufferings in the world, I sometimes wonder;

    aayaa xudaa hast yaa nah? Is there God or not? Does God exist or not?
