professor of the [materia]

    Saludos.

    Vi en Wikipedia que en inglés algunas veces se refieren a los maestros se refieren como "professor of the ...", por ejemplo, herbology. Pero ese "the" no me suena de nada. ¿En qué situaciones se usa esta expresión?

    It doesn't sound right to me to use "the" except perhaps in for example: He is professor of the Geography of the United States, where it is a specific sort of Geography.
    Herbology is the study of mystical plants that Pomona Sprout is Professor of in the Harry Potter books.
    Yes Rowlands describes her as Professor of the Herbology but I would say that the "the" is probably added for effect in the books and is not normal practise.
