I am wondering what color is pourpe, and what color is violet? It appears there are two words for "purple" in French. I would guess that "violet" is a dark purple, like the color of a violet flower (or an eggplant). When I think of the color purple, though, I usually think of a lighter color. Is this "pourpe"? In English, a very light purple is called "lavender". Is there a word for this in French?

Violet is purple. Pourpre is more crimson (sort of like curtains in theaters). And you can say lavande in french too for a very light purple.
