    So, from what I understand:

On est le (jour) quantième? = on est le combien? = What's today's date?

Can I use this to ask, for example, how many drinks someone has had?
C'est ton quantième? = ça te fait combien (de verres)?

"Quantième" sounds strange/pedantic in this context, but it make sens (but maybe not for everybody).

We prefer to use colloquially "combientième" and write "tu en a déjà bu combien ?"

It doesn't bother me at all...
Maybe some (pedantic?) French expressions are quite common in Belgian! :D

    What's today's date? :
suggestion : "on est le combientième" (langage courant)
ou "Le combien est-on ?" (un peu plus soutenu)

How many drinks someone has had?
Suggestion : "Combien de verres ce type a-t-il bu ?

Quantième (n° du jour dans l'année, dans le mois) :
suggestion : serial number of the day of the year, the month.

I personally have never heard "le combientième"... But (again), back in Belgium, "on est le quantième?"/"c'est le quantième, aujourd'hui?" makes nobody raise an eyebrow!

Oh, for dates I totally agree. Everybody (even fr_FR) use quantième, no problem. :)

I was only talking about other things than dates (second part of Pheelineerie's question : "c'est le quantième verre que te bois ?") for which we would rather use colloquially "combien-tième"

    Sorry for the confusion

    Oh, never mind! :)

"C'est ton quantième?" is not a problem with me either... (I may be biased)
