How would you translate "quello di noi" as in "quello di noi che ha scelto il compito più difficile potrebbe trovarsi in difficoltà.

"Those of us (?) who chose the harder task might get into trouble."

Thanks Jo. It's part of that strange gender adapting thing, like in "those of us who chose the harder task kill THEMSELVES before asking for help", isn't it?

I think I would actually! I know it sounds strange, but "the one of us who" is even stranger...:)
I suppose it would have to be paraphrased in order to make it quite clear we're talking about only one person.

The member of the group who...
    The person who......
    The one who.....

This is formal, old-fashioned and sounds very stilted to modern ears when it's not part of a set phrase or saying:

    He who...

Let's see what my fellow natives have to say.:)

You can also say "He of us who.........", but it's not as popular as "Those of us who..... ". It sounds very biblical.

I don't have a problem with "The one of us who..........". It has plenty of Google listings. :)

Ah, but would you say it? It makes my toes curl.......maybe it's more American than British. My apologies, however, MF!;)

If the person speaking is refering to a specific, known person, right in front of them, and they are are saying it for emphasis, I could imagine using "The one of us",
but to these AE ears it's painful outside of that context.:)

If it's a general statement, I'd vote with Rafanadal - "Those of us...".

No, I wouldn't, but I might write it. I certainly wouldn't consider it wrong. :)

    Ciao,

Riporto questo esempio, visto che "the one of us who..." sembrava giusto anche a me.

Tre persone si sfidano a un gioco.

Uno dice: "Io sfido Marco, quello di noi che vince sfiderà te" - "I challenge Marco, the one of us who wins will challenge you". Se "the one of us" è sbagliato come si potrebbe rendere la frase?

    Grazie.

    Ciao CC,

    Forse meglio:

...the one who wins will challenge you.
    ..................................take you on.
    ..................................compete against you.

I'll play (against) Marco, whoever wins plays (against) you.
