    Ciao,

"All the cars are being refurbished 190 miles to the north in the rail town of Doncaster"

Cosa si intende per rail town? Non riesco a capirlo.... "stanno ristrutturando tutti i vagoni a Doncaster, una rail town :)confused:) 118 km a nord.

    Grazie

È una cittadina dove c'è una ferrovia. "Rail" is short for "railroad".

Maybe it's more than that. From Wikipedia:

    Sembrerebbe un importante snodo ferroviario...:)

I stand corrected. :) Given what Matrap wrote, I would have said "rail hub" instead of "rail town." In AmE (I don't know if the same is true of BE), "town" typically carries the connotation that it is not a very important city - just an "every day" town, so this is why I assumed Doncaster was likely a small town with a railroad (and nothing else of real importance other than that railroad).

It is more than that. From Wikipedia:
"During the Industrial Revolution the railway came to Doncaster, and the Great Northern Railway established the Doncaster Locomotive and Carriage Building Works. [...] The Doncaster Plant became famous for building LNER 4-6-2 locomotives Mallard and the Flying Scotsman, as well as many thousands more locomotives."

    From Wikimapia:
"Great Northern, LNER, British Railways, BREL, RFS and now Wabtec - "The Plant" keeps on going after over 150 years - building and repairing locomotives and rolling stock."

A 'rail town' is a town whose main reason for existence is the railways.

Come renderlo in italiano? Magari lascialo proprio come in inglese:
