    Withstand es soportar.
    Resist.
    Break-in es intrusión, entrada forzada o entradera como dicen por allá.
    Attempted robbery.

    ( as when you are forced to deliver your money and deny to hand it over thus risking your life )

    Es interesante.

    A mí, "resist" da a entender que la víctima/las víctimas intentaron a defenderse, pelearon contra el ladrón y que el robo no tuvo éxito. Además, creo que "Withstand" quiere decir casi lo mismo, pero quizás mejor que lo use para un idea o un objeto inanimado.

    The house withstood the hurricane.
    His book/theory withstands the test of time.

    Espero que le sirve. No dudo que es bastante confuso. :)
