    Hi All,

I'm looking for an *idiomatic translation* for 'se faire une place au soleil', and I can only think of the literal translation (find a place in the sun):(

    Here's the phrase in context:

X a aidé le mouvement politique d'après-guerre à 'se faire une place au soleil'.

Looking forward to receiving your replies:)

Well, thanks to Agnès E. for this explanation about the exact meaning of this French expression.

However, we still don't have any idea of how to say that in English, do we?

Can any native English speakers tell us if they have any suggestions, as to how to best express that in their native tongue? Thanks!

To conquer a prominent position in the world? (perhaps)?
