    Hola amigos:

Estaba buscando información sobre el incesto desde una perspectiva psicoanalítica y antropológica, y me encontré con un libro muy interesante llamado On incest: psychoanalytic perspectives, de Giovanna Ambrosio. Leyendo por encimita el libro, me topé con esta frase que me pareció llamativa y probablemente útil para ser comentada aquí:

Mi pregunta, después de releer ese capítulo, fue: ¿y cómo se traduciría ese pedacito al castellano? Y me vine para acá a preguntárselo a ustedes. :p

    Mi propuesta:

Lo cierto es que a lo largo del tiempo y de la historia, las relaciones sexuales entre personas con lazos consanguíneos han sido causa de reflexión y debate por parte de censuradores, poetas, científicos, etnólogos, sociólogos, antropólogos y psicoanalistas.

    ¿Qué les parece?

    Muchos saludos,

In English you can be related to someone either by blood or by marriage.

A husband, wife, father-in-law, mother-in-law etc. are related by marriage. They are relatives (relations) by marriage.

A mother, father, son, grandmother, sister, brother etc. are blood relatives. They are blood relatives (relations)

The word 'relatives' and 'relations' are being used as synonyms here. It does not refer to sexual relations.

Thanks, grubble, for your clarification! :) I forgot to mention that we have an appropriate translation into Spanish for 'blood relation' in our English-Spanish dictionary; appropriate but incomplete.

    blood relation
n (sb biologically related) || España parentesco nm de sangre | Chile relación nf consanguínea

My African friend calls me his American mother, but of course I'm not a blood relation.

Cabe destacar que el sentido de "familiar consanguíneo" está contenido en ese ejemplo de nuestro diccionario pero no está traducido correctamente para ese caso particular. Mi propuesta:

Mi amigo africano me llama su "mamá estadounidense", pero por supuesto no soy su pariente consanguínea (
o: no llevamos la misma sangre).

    Here's Merriam-Webster's definition:
    Thank you again.

Any sexual relationship between persons related by blood (e.g. first cousins) can be described as consanguinous (consanguíneos).

Thanks, Masood. I'd like to stress that our dear WR English-Spanish Dictionary gives two excellent translations for 'blood relationship' or 'consanguinity'. However, it's a shame that we don't have a good translation for 'blood relation' as it appears in the English sample sentence. :) I added a comment in my post #4 with a possible translation into Spanish.

    Feliz noche de martes.
