Both spet and znova are translated as "again" by my dictionary. Are there any nuances of meaning that differentiate these words?

The difference is minor. In most cases, they're more or less fully synonymous. Depending on the context, spet can imply more frequent repetition of the event in question, while znova has some of the implications of "anew".

As intensifier in negative statements, only spet can be used: Tako daleč pa spet ni.
