    Le contexte:
    The Spark borrows its approach to the gauge cluster from the Sonic, only the big analog tachometer is a speedometer in the smaller car.

    Mon interrogation:
    Je ne suis pas sûre de la façon dont je dois comprendre la phrase. Le tachymètre remplace l'indicateur de vitesse? Il sert d'indicateur de vitesse?

    Les deux voitures ont la même etc ..., mais le (big analog) tachymètre (dans la grosse voiture) est (remplacé par) un simple indicateur de vitesse dans la petite voiture.

    Oui, pour moi le "tachometer" est la version haut de gamme du "speedometer" ...

    I believe that a tachometer measures RPM (revolutions per minute), whereas a speedometer measures the more standard miles/hour or km/hour.

    I agree with misterk. The first displays engine speed. It's a strange sentence, because I suppose the bigger car must have both - it'd be awfully hard to obey speed limits without a speedometer.
