    No lo he oido en referencia especial a las universidades pero está high third o higher third

    Please can someone explain what is intended by the Spanish.

    "Upper third" in English (UK at least) suggests a degree in the third category, but a good mark within this category. Overall, this would not be a good result.

    I suspect the Spanish means the best category...

    El tercio superior en un centro educativo se refiere al grupo de estudiantes que ocupan los primeros puestos debido a su rendimiento académico, simplemente se divide la cantidad de alumnos entre 3; es decir 3 grupos, a los de mejor rendimiento se les considera en el primer grupo (Tercio Superior)
