    I'd like to just check the following phrase translates well into French. I don't know why, but it doesn't feel right today!

    Thank you for contacting me

    can this be translated, as the opening to a formal letter as

    "Je vous remercie de me contacter"

    Ah, ambiguous sentence in English. It can mean 'please contact me' in which case your translation is correct. Or it can mean thank you for having contacted me in which case you would need 'merci de m'avoir contacté'. The French members may have a better solution to offer. Usually they begin with 'J'ai bien reçu votre lettre de 10 mai et vous en remercie'.
