I am trying to translate a biography, but am having a hard time with one key term:

...X-san studied sex therapy at a well-known San Francisco based program...

What's the best way to translate sex therapy? I came up with two options:

    性療法
    セックスセラピー

I was thinking that I preferred the first option because it seems more professional than the latter, but I'm worried it may be confusing or hard to understand.

    Thank you for your feedback!

    I'd choose セックスセラピー.

Your thought about the wording is exactly correct. Indeed sex therapy would be 性療法 if you translate it without katakana, and it would surely look more professional than the latter (if this word exists). But apparently the word 性療法 is not popular at all, and there are some confusing terms in the form of "...性 + 療法" (e.g. "関係性療法").
