    Hi everyone! 大家好!
I'd like to know how to say in chinese "This program doesn't work on my computer" ?

I tried to translate in this way, but I'm not so sure.
    我的电脑里不能用这个应用程序.
    我的电脑里不能用这个程序.

I don't even know if 应用程序 or 程序 is the correct translation for 'program'.

    Thank you in advance!

Hi Thime, your second translation is correct. 程序 is "program", and 应用程序 refers to the file with ".exe" at the end of its name.:)

EDIT: Just realised, the accurate translation of ".exe" file should be 可执行文件.:p It's a kind of 应用程序, I think...

    应用程序 is more like "application".

Your sentences are understandable. But more idiomatically we may say 这个程序在我的电脑上运行不了.

Most people won't even bother thinking about the exact definitions of 程序/应用程序/软件... Just like in English, I don't think you'd always distinguish "program/application/app/software..."
People just use the shorter and easier one. So, 程序 instead of 应用程序.

应用程序 is the direct translation of "application program", which is a software terminology used to contrast with "system programs".
Windows occasionally chose this word to refer user-installed programs in some places, and it was directly translated into Chinese.
But most people don't use and understand the term 应用程序 at all.

    ----
I guess many people saw this word first when they received the infamous error: 应用程序错误 该内存不能为read (Application error. The memory could not be read).
We won't get this error any more with modern programming languages.
