I'd like to request you to discuss the word ''thread'' in the sense of a discussion thread like this one in the forum. What is the usual way of referring to it in Dutch? Is the English word used as a loan-word or are some words that are originally Dutch used in this context? I'm just frightened at the thought of using 'draad' for it!

Yes we say 'thread' but also 'draad', the Dutch equivalent.

Correct, but I think draadje is more common than draad though.

The translation used on this website is discussie.

On the Dutch forums I visit, most people use "topic" and "thread".
