To do a land office business

    Bonjour à tous,

    j'aimerais traduire la phrase suivante et je cale sur " did land office business".

    Contexte:

    "Before the gas companies learned that their scowling meter-men were accumulating liabilities never to be cleared away, the polite salesman of oil burners came along and did a land office business".

    Avant que les compagnies du gaz ne se rendent compte que le comportement hargneux de leurs employés chargés de relever les compteurs leur causaient un préjudice irréparable, les représentants courtois des brûleurs de mazout sont arrivés en leur "savonnant la planche" (?) Juste une supposition.
