"Doc, I can't stop singing 'The Green Green Grass of Home'."
"That sounds like Tom Jones syndrome."
    "Is it common?"
    "It's not unusual."

What does "Tom Jones syndrome" refer to?
Do you think the above funny? If yes, what makes you laugh? Thanks.

Tom Jones sings that song. The "syndrome" thing is supposed to be a joke, and you can use it in many occasions.

For example, if mum tells me I shouldn't stay up so late and must drink my glass of warm milk before going to bed, and I happen to be a very cheeky person, I might tell her that she seems to suffer from the "brood hen" syndrome (she's way too careful about her kids)

    Frankly, I've seen better.

I found it funny! Tom Jones sang both "The Green, Green Grass of Home" and "It's Not Unusual".

Thanks, Trisia, for the clearcut explanation.
    I get it.
By the way, I'm not so sure of the meaning of "a cheeky person." And I am going to open a thread aobut. I hope you don't mind.
