    What's the meaning of this expression?

    Mais à côté de cela, quelle séduction ! Quelle gaieté ! Quels soubresauts d’enthousiasme et d’exaltation juvénile. Tous ses défauts prenaient l’apparence de qualités excessives et ses vices avaient un air de vertus qui s’ignorent et qui vont s’épanouir.
