Wield his authority

    In light of this thread (flex one's authority), I wonder if "wield his authority" carries the sense of "showing off/display his own importance and authority" or "to show someone who is the boss".

    To borrow the example from that thread:
    ('Letters of Transit,' Fringe Season 4)

    Does "wield his authority" make sense as an alternative to "display his authority"?
