27 years of age / aged

Good morning everybody, I would like to know if it is correct to write 'I am 27 years of age' or is 'I am 27 years aged' the right form? Does this type of expression exist in English Language? I know that 'I am 27 years old' would be more simple but I am sure that I have seen this expression...

I found an article here on IELTS-exam.net web site at http://www.ielts-exam.net/academic_writing_samples_task_1/679/ In this article, there are a few ways to refer to a group of people in certain ages. I also made up two phrases, which are as follows 1. the group of people aged 35-54 2...

    1. Overall, female participation increased as age range rises. I don't need the definition article before age range because I am talking about all the age categories in the chart. But isn't the word range a countable noun? Is it grammatically correct to just say 'age range'? 2. 47.7 percent of...

young people, middle-aged people and elderly people

How do English speakers categorise people by age? I think in my culture, young people are those from 18 - 40, middle-aged peolple are those from 40 -55, and elderly is over 60 (I don't know what happened to the 5-year gap though, I guess those people belong to both categories). Are these the...

A young person's addressing an aged person: good sir, old sir

Hi, How would a young native speaker start a conversation with an aged person? (E.g. a 26 years old person to a 75+ years old person) Hello old man, how are you? -> This would be rude. However, if two persons are the same age or the person addressing is older than the person being addressed...

A fifth of Uruguayans = singular or plural?

Neither "age" nor "are aged" fits this context. "Age" as a verb and "are aged" reminds me of wine or cheese being "aged". We say "... are age sixty or older", but it's "... are older than age sixty", not "... are age older than sixty". Any number of Uruguayans is plural except one Uruguayan.

In AE, both are used; "aged" is, I'd say, a bit more formal.

27 years of age / aged

Man, I wouldn't use aged in any of those situations. I'd just use age. For me, aged is a verb ("When her son died, she aged 10 years overnight") or possibly a modifier (aged cheese; "I saw an aged aged man,/ A-sitting on a gate." - Lewis Carroll). But for me, someone's age is 27 - she's 27 years...

"School-aged children", to me, would be children who have been caused to age (grow older) by the school. I guess this is why most people prefer "school-age", although it's certainly not hard to find examples of "school-aged" being used.

Just to clarify From sense #3 aged From sense #4 old-aged, middle-aged, and -- possibly -- teenaged. EDIT : I've got nothing against using a teenaged daughter, and I do use it myself, in the same way as I would use a blue-eyed daugter. But I see no reason to forbid teenage daughter while at...

A fifth of Uruguayans = singular or plural?

In this structure, I wouldn't use "age/aged" at all. I would say: "A fifth of Uruguayans are over sixty". If you want to use "age", you could say "Many Uruguayans are aged sixty and over". Notice that I've moved the "over" to the end of the sentence.

27 years of age / aged

From my experience, "aged" is normally used (in the structure "xx years aged") for products that have been left for a period of time before sale (e.g. whisky, cheese, wines). "Years of age" is perfectly fine for saying your age. :)

    getting aged vs getting old

No, we can't. "Getting aged" implies that someone else is "aging" them. It uses "aged", which is the past participle of "to age". Nobody is "aging" you. People can't do that to other people. People can "age" foods (wine, brandy, cheese). "Get" is used in more than one way: 1. passive (Tom is...

    Don’t age well

Basically, to age well means that someone/something has maintained many positive features for their/its age. A person has aged well if, for example, at the age of 80, they are still active and alert, dress well, etc. A person has not aged well if, at the age of 60, they look and act as if they...

Come now, let's watch out for the pitfalls of corpus use. "Aged" has several other uses besides telling someone's age (remember, for example the "aged parent" of Dickens's Great Expectations; or "that experience aged me 5 years"). If you insert a specific age—say, 14—the Ngram Viewer shows...
