How might you go about the word élan in this sentence? The sentence is describing a person.

Original French:

Cheveux châtains et plutôt courts balayés derrière les oreilles, la mèche oblique sur son front donne de l’élan à sa coiffure.

My (not so great) translation:

Her short brown hair and preferably brushed behind her ears, her oblique lock of hair on her forehead gave her hairstyle some KICK.

Thanks!

Her short brown hear, normally brushed behind her ears, her slanting lock of hair gave her hairstyle some spirit. I think kick, however, is fine here too.

Perhaps there is someone who is more au fait with hairstyles who can find a better translation for 'slanting lock'?
