can the phrase "équipe d'accueil" have any other meaning in French than "welcome committe"?

i'm stuck on a sentence that includes this phrase. any ideas?

I can't provide much context for reasons of confidentiality, but basically it's a research team that describes itself as an équipe d'accueil of a university.. does that make any sense to anyone?

Of course you can provide context - just leave out the name! As it stands I think you have it right, but I would say 'welcoming committee'.

well the names are pretty much all there is, that's the thing! i think i've said everything i can that's useful.
    the sentence itself is
"XXXest une équipe d’accueil (xxx) commune YYY, ZZZ et AAA.
which i've translated so far as
"XXX is a team (xx) working with YYY, ZZZ and AAA"

I just don't see what they would be welcoming; it really doesn't make much sense.

For now i'm just using team, but wondered if it had any other meaning in a research team typed sense...

hmm. that seems more likely.. thanks catay. there are also a number of other groups that work within this one, so it could be that.
    Thanks very much :)

"L'équipe d'accueil" at the university in the city in the UK where I live is called "the orientation team".
They meet and greet new students at the airport / bus station / train station, etc and then take them to their accommodation, show them around the campus and the city to explain where's where and what's what (supermarkets, bars, library, book shops, free bus service, etc), as well as answer any questions they may have.
They are also unofficially known as "the meet and greet team".
I know this thread is old, but it may help others in the future.

It would appear that in an academic context, an 'équipe d'accueil' has a particular meaning regarding the hosting of post-graduate research. The best translation I have so far found for the term is 'research unit'.
