être le contemporain de

French - France

How do you translate "Elle aurait voulu être sa contemporaine", meaning she wishes she had lived at the same time than him. She is a girl living now and he is a writer who died 60 years ago.
I guess that "his contemporary" can't work, so it must be "she wished she had been his fellow-something", but fellow what? Or is there another way of saying it?
Thank you very much!
