I understand this sentence, "Το άτομο ξεχνά τις λεπτομέρειες των πρόσφατων ή όχι γεγονότων" to mean, "The person forgets the details of recent or non-factual events (this is in a list of symptoms of Alzheimer's)." But how does one forget the details of a non-factual event? Does "ὀχι γεγονότων" mean something I'm not aware of, or is this an error on the writer's part? Did I misinterpret the sentence?

I think the misunderstanding is due to the non-existent punctuation or anything that would make it easier for the learner to understand, for that matter. I, for one, would rewrite it as: "... των πρόσφατων, ή όχι, / (ή όχι) γεγονότων." ("... of recent -or not so recent- events" ).
