הוא / ההוא

The problem I have is in the sentence I posted as a pic.

I know from the Hebrew dictionary, that "הוא" means "He" as personalpronomina and "this" as demonstrativpronomina. But what happens if I put an article "ה" in front of this? Does it change any of the meaning of it?

This is the distal demonstrative (object is far from the speaker). Its "close" counterpart is הזה [haze].
ביום הזה = on this day.
ביום ההוא = on that day.

"ביום ההוא נפלה אש מן השמים" = "on that day fire fell down from the sky."

I also saw that there is the word ההיא (hahí) used for “that”. I suspect this is for feminine objects instead?

Or can you use ‏ההוא for both male and female nouns/objects/etc?

ההוא for masculine
הילד ההוא יפה

ההיא for feminine
הילדה ההיא יפה

(also, for masculine plural: ההם, and for feminine plural: ההן).
