أسألك خيرها وخير ما جبلتها عليه

English - United States of America
السلام عليكم

هذا دعاء

اللهم إني أسألك خيرها وخير ما جبلتها عليه ، وأعوذ بك من شرها وشر ما جبلتها عليه

What is the meaning of أسألك خيرها وخير ما جبلتها عليه? khayr means “best”, doesn't it? Does خيرها mean “the best part of her”?

جزاكم الله خيرا

  • Maybe خير is being used in the sense of the noun 'good' here, just as شر is being used as a noun meaning 'evil'.

Are khayr and sharr ever used as nouns?
Any اسم التفضيل can work as a noun if you go creative to build a sentence as such because nouns adjectives aren't really that differentiated in Arabic after all. Here, الأجمل is "the beauty" (aka "the most beautiful thing"):

The hardest part about people's jobs is shitty payrolls that can't feed a dog for a single day while the government tells economy is doing just fine, and that's the beauty of it!

الأصعب لدى عمل السكان هو رواتب منحطة لا تكفي لغذاء كلب لمدة يوم واحد بينما تقول الحكومة إن الاقتصاد لا يزال على ما يرام وهذا هو الأجمل في الأمر

Yes. While the superlative is خير وشرّ instead of أخْيَر وأشَرّ as the standard is, the words could also be of the form فَعْل - an ordinary noun and not a superlative. In this case the plurals are شُرور وخيرات as opposed to شِرار وخِيار for the superlatives.

الخير could mean advantage; benefit; prosperity; fitness; gain; well-being; goodness; happiness; health; output; profit; wealth; favor; affluence; charity.

الشرّ could mean damage; evil; harm; ill; injury; craftiness; deceit; trickery; malevolence; malice; wickedness.

    This is actually a superlative.

I agree that they are all nouns in Arabic, but the use here is that of a superlative.
