إنَّ + لَ

Hi everyone,

في الحديث النبوي: (إن الرجل ليعمل بعمل أهل النار حتى ما يكون بينه وبينها إلا ذراع، فيسبق عليه الكتاب فيعمل بعمل أهل الجنة فيدخلها)،

What is the meaning of la when preceding it there is inna (حرف مشبه بالفعل)? We of course know that inna is for emphasis, like إنك عظيم Verily you are great. (or indeed you are great).

لام للتوكيد

This is called اللام المزحلقة. It’s لام الابتداء or لام التوكيد (used for emphasis) added to المبتدأ, but if you add إنّ also for emphasis, you have too much emphasis at the beginning of the sentence so you “slide” it to الخبر 🙂, hence the name.

The sentence is originally للرجل يعمل بعمل أهل النار, when you add إن it becomes إن الرجل ليعمل بعمل الخ.

With regard to الحروف المشبهة بالفعل, we know that their ism is manSuub. If we add a pronoun to these, the pronoun is also manSuub، e.g

إنّھا جمیلة She is beautiful.

But if the ھا is in the accusative (manSuub), shouldn't the reading be..

Her is beautiful (which of course is wrong in English)?
