More on the Arabic in the novel, The Sheltering Sky. At p.130, Port and his wife are leaving a house where they'd had tea with man called Chaoui - and also had a socially awkward time of it. A young musician had been playing a lute much of the time. And so, as the couple departed...

"The musician, still strumming on his lute, accompanied them to the gate, and solemnly said: 'B'slemah' as he closed it after them."

Is that equivalent to "Goodbye"? Thanks.
