Hi all and assalaamu alaykum!

This is hadith 39 in the famous Arba3een an-Nawawiyyah, and I'm wondering how best to understand the word "tajaawaza":

To me, it seems like the meaning is that of "overlooked" or "pardoned" but does the word actually translate as "permitted"?

  • So, if تَجَاوَزَ الْخَطَأَ وَالنِّسْيَانَ وَمَا اسْتُكْرِهُوا عَلَيْهِ means "He forgave the mistake and the forgetting and what they are forced to (do)", what does عن add to the meaning of the verb?

    لِي for my sake
عَنْ attributes the mistakes and forgetfulness to the umma
    A possible translation could be:
For my sake, He overlooked any mistakes and forgetfulness that may have been committed by my nation

No, without عن it doesn't mean forgive.
I agree in terms of meaning, I’m just wondering what the إعراب of الخطأَ is. It’s منصوب so it seems on the surface that it’s مفعول به, but that would change the meaning, wouldn’t it?
