Hello,

I'm not sure how to translate the phrase سلم الاقريجي which appears in an administrative document from a school in Tunisia in the early 1950s. Professors are compiling a list of grievances, one of which is:

الامتناع من اعطاء سلم الاقريجي كاملا للمدرسين من الطبقة الأولى

Does anyone have advice? Thanks.

    I guess it reads:
Not to grant the teachers of first class a full grading scale (not to appoint them on the highest grading scale/level)

الاقريجي is probably a transliteration of the French word agrégé with the Arabic definite article al.
Agrégé in French is someone who has the agrégation, a prestigious competition to recruit the best teachers in secondary schools and even at university.
    Thus the sentence would be:
Refusal to grant the full agrégé scale to category-one teachers.
Nowadays, Agrégation is called تبريز in the Tunisian educational system and agrégé is أستاذ مبرّز
