ورث الطرق والزوايا

English
مساء الخير

In the novel مديح الكراهية by خالد خليفة there is this passage:

ترك ثلاثة أطفال ينامون في غرفة واحدة على فراش قطن غير مندوف وأغطية خشنة بينما أولاد المشايخ الآخرين يرثون الطرق والزوايا

The meaning is clear enough from context but is this a common expression? I can't find it anywhere.

  • What do you think it means?

Since it is meant to contrast with the children of the first shaykh who sleep three to a room in an uncomfortable bed, I think it must mean being born into a privileged lifestyle, or at least a nice house. I was just wondering if it was a common expression.

I think both طرق and زوايا are technical terms here. A طريقة is a Sufi order, and a زاوية is a Sufi lodge.
Wow! Impressive. I had no idea what it meant, and I thought, "Huh? 'They inherit paths and corners?' " :D

I think it must mean being born into a privileged lifestyle, or at least a nice house.
More accurately: he left nothing to his three children, who sleep in one room on hard beds, while the other [sufi] sheikhs leave wealth or fortunes to their children.
I was just wondering if it was a common expression.
It isn’t, as it’s related to this context of comparing this sufi master to the other ones who don’t really practice الزُهد but make worldly gains.
