  • توفيق is the masdar of وَفَّقَ, here is its meaning in Lane's Lexicon:
    وَفَّقَهُ ٱللّٰهُ:
    God accommodated him, adapted him, or disposed him, or directed him, to the right course;
    God made him to take, or follow, a right way, course, or direction, [in an affair]: or directed him by inspiration to that which was good, or to prosperity.

    عَنْ مُعَاذٍ أَنَّ النَّبِىَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم لَمَّا بَعَثَهُ إِلَى الْيَمَنِ قَالَ أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ عَرَضَ لَكَ قَضَاءٌ كَيْفَ تَقْضِى قَالَ أَقْضِى بِكِتَابِ اللَّهِ قَالَ فَإِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ فِى كِتَابِ اللَّهِ قَالَ فَبِسُنَّةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ فَإِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ فِى سُنَّةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ قَالَ أَجْتَهِدُ رَأْيِى وَلَا آلُو قَالَ فَضَرَبَ صَدْرَهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِى وَفَّقَ رَسُولَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ لِمَا يُرْضِى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ

    (سنن الدارمي)

    What would you say about this instance of it? Do you think الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِى وَفَّقَ رَسُولَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ لِمَا يُرْضِى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ means "Praise be to Allah, who directed Allah's Messenger's messenger by inspiration toward what pleases Allah's Messenger."? According to Islamic theology, does God inspire people other than prophets?

    That meaning seems to make sense there. I think 'inspiration' here would be a broader sense than what is meant by وحي.

    It can be translated to English in different ways. In your example I would translate it to: my success [in whatever I aim for] comes only from God.
