さした

Yo, friends. Could you help me again?
I came across a phrase that I am not sure if I understand.
この神は、神話では、いろいろな生き物を作り出す才能があったとされている。これは、部下の鎧をさしたエピソードが後に変形したものと考えられる。
The episode where he designated the armors changed the 生き物 or the episode became the myth where he created 生き物?
Thank you very much in advance.

    I don't think a standard Japanese speaker would say 鎧をさした instead of 鎧をさせた, referring to "let someone wear the armor." If they speak in a Japanese dialect, it may be possible, but I don't know.
    Maybe it's merely a typo. Anyway, I disagree with #2.

    To me, the possible interpretations are only two; one is that "they penetrated the armor of their subordinate with a weapon such as a sword, a lance or an arrow: 鎧を刺した."

    Or another is that it might mean "referring to the armor " (鎧を指した).
    I think this is a little more probable interpretation.

    Anyway, these interpretations don't seem to make much sense, and we need more context and background in order to solve this puzzle.

    (鎧を指した version's story for example): 部下が亀の甲羅の形のよろいをつけていたというエピソードが発端となり、後にその武将が神格化した時に、亀を作り出す才能があることになり、さらに亀以外にもいろいろな生き物を作り出せる力があるという話に盛られていって、それが神話となった。

    According to PM, the background was the anime 聖闘士星矢.
    The god was ポセイドン, 部下 were 海闘士, 鎧 was 鱗衣.
    海闘士の鱗衣をさしたエピソード=鱗衣は海の怪物等を模したオブジェ形態から分解・変形して海闘士の身を包む防具となる、というエピソード.

    As a result, さした=指した=鱗衣を指し示した、鱗衣に関する=refer to the armors.
    Period.
