Hi all, is there any difference at all between the usage of もう and すでに?

Like say, are they totally interchangeable in all cases and there will be no difference in nuance at all?

Ok specifically, what's the difference in nuance between this two (speaking to friend who just woke up and is late for school):

もう is more casual than すでに.

[A]re they totally interchangeable in all cases[?]
Wow, that's a very hard question to answer. Do you have any specific sentences wherein you suspect that one is definitely acceptable and the other is not?

EDIT: Context and background information are mandatory for ALL ENQUIRIES in WR discussion. Thread openers should make their best effort to make their questions as specific as possible. In other words, avoid too general questions.

「speaking to friend who just woke up and is late for school」ということであれば、1のほうが2より良いです。理由は「もう is more casual than すでに」だからです。

Ok cool. By the way, what if we change the situation to "speaking to a colleague (not qualified as a friend) who is late for his meeting" ? So in this case is it true that すでに would be more appropriate than もう or is もう still more appropriate?
