If so, the idea of "looking back through diaries" seems to have come to the author before she finished her work. And "時間があれば" may mean "if work doesn't occupy leisure time".

If not, I think the idea of "looking back at diaries" may have come after the author finished her work. And "時間があれば" seems to mean "if there isn't much else to do after work".
