This is from the Standard Course Book of HSK5, chapter 21. Can you confirm that 再 here means "then"? Or not?

I think 再 is a little bit ambiguous there. Sure it means "then" as in "and then" (and next), but at the same time it seems to imply "again; a second time". Something must have suggested a first attempt at learning Chinese characters before this sentence you've quoted.
