利益が還元されれば

投資した会社が投資家の期待に応えて業績を上げ、投資家に利益が還元されれば投資も成功といえます。
(no more context, it's a grammar example for 応えて).
If the company, improving it's performance to meet the needs of the investors,
is able to return the interests to the basic level, it can be said that the investments are successful.

利益が還元されれば
Does it mean, that for some period the company had problems, and the interests of the investors fell,
and the the speaker says that in this situation even to return the interests to original level - it is already a success
(to say nothing of making them higher than before).

    Thank you!
But why not to say just 投資家に利益が戻る?
    As I understand, 還元=元の状態にもどすこと.
So 投資家に利益が還元する should mean not just "the profit goes back to the investors ", but "the profit for the investors goes back to it's original state"?
