I recently heard the following on a TV show "我跟(person's name)吵翻了"
Is 吵翻 the same as 吵架？

吵翻 means to
have a fight and fall out with somebody
you may also see 闹翻 for the similar meaning.

Yes. So after you 吵翻 with somebody, you have to make up (和好) with him to restore the relationship. Otherwise you may not talk to each other forever.

翻 overturn
When the thing is 翻了, it's turning upside down and hard to get back. Can be metaphoric.
翻桌子 turn the desk over (usually when someone is enraged)
翻脸 overturn the face (from glad to angry)
翻案 overturn a case
...

吵翻 I give the translation: have a quarrel and break up. If 2 friends 吵翻, they get angry with each other and maybe they don't think they should be friends any more.
