I wonder how to express the Chinese sentence"他們很死板,不懂得變通"in English

    They always stick to the cut-and-dried principle, and don't know how to be flexible.

    The origin of 'cut-and-dried' is associated with wood. If the wood is cut and get dried, it is hard to change its itself. 板:木板:D

    I thought it could be translated into " Darn, They are fogyish, even do not know reach the place through a short-cut( figure of speech). "

    Literally, something more like what Acemach said.
