SIMON: Insulin in one form or another has been saving lives for - what? - 80 years. Why has the price gone up in recent years?

    It's referring to his previous sentences: "One vial of insulin in the U.S. costs seven times what it does in Germany. So there's a huge disparity there."

    It sounds an odd way to express it to me, but it may be natural in AE?
