    I'm in doubt about which preposition goes best here:

    La zone saharienne compte 47% de la superficie pour 2% de la population

    The Saharan area comprises 47% of the surface for 2% of the population?

    The Saharan zone accounts for 47% of the total land area, but is inhabited by just 2% of the population.

    Sorry, but you're in the wrong forum.

    That said, "The Saharan area accounts for 47% of the surface area for 2% of the population."
