a 12-vehicle military convoy

Senior Member
Does "a 12-vehicle military convoy" means the same as "12 soldiers"? Thanks.
Here is a context:
"SIRNAK, Turkey - Kurdish rebels ambushed a military unit near Turkey's border with Iraq early Sunday, killing 12 soldiers.... The soldiers died when rebels blew up a bridge as a 12-vehicle military convoy was crossing it, CNN-Turk television said."

    Hi Nick,

No, it doesn't. It means 12 military vehicles travelling along, one behind the other. We don't know how many soldiers were in each vehicle, just that 12 of them, alas, were killed.
Hi again The Scrivener. Your explanation is very helpful for me. Thank you.
