    Hi,

I wonder what word I could use in the following example: "A 3rd-century text [word?] an older story about the creation of the world."

I want to say that the story was already circulating at the time when the writer put pen to paper. Any suggestions?

    Thank you!

"A 3rd-century text records/retells/recites an older story about the creation of the world."

"Contains" is possible, besides Paul's good suggestions.

Thank you both! I think records is what I was looking for.

    Another option is 'preserves'.
