"a : b = c : d" is read "a is to b as c is to d." Can I read this "a is to b what c is to d?"

    a : b :: c : d
    8.33. In double colon as ratio sign.

    As you and Nunty have said, there is a conventional way to say this.
    a is to b as c is to d ...
    I wouldn't try to say it any other way.
