Hi all,

Is "them" in the following sentence necessary?

Vectors are represented by lower case letters with a bar over (them).

    Oh yes, it should be "them" :). But is "them" really necessary? Thanks for your corrections.

    By the way, are sure you mean bars, not arrows?
    It depends on the convention you choose to use.
    Once upon a time I used lines above, as pasv suggests.
    I went to look for some examples and as well as lines above I found little arrows above, as LV4-26 suggests, and lines below (underlines - which are probably the easiest to produce on a PC - we didn't have PCs when I worked with vector calculus).
