Hi,

Realizing running was a battle against myself, I was ready to finish my first marathon.
(Quoted from an English test paper in China)

Can “myself” be replaced by “me”?

Many thanks!

"Me" seems a little strange and confusing in that particular sentence. "A battle against myself" is more emphatic and natural here. "Me" is not always an idiomatic synonym for "myself" in phrases where that word is used.
