The quotation comes from A history of the department store

Quotation: The initial design was by Daniel Burnham, a big-spirited American architect who had worked for Marshall Field’s and, significantly, had designed much of the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair, a successor to London’s Great Exhibition of 1851.
Hi everyone! I don't understand "big-spirited" here. What does it mean?

I understand it as "a man of great spirit". "Spirit" here is probably used in the sense of (WR dictionary) a lively, courageous, or hopeful attitude.
