    En realidad no estoy segura si se refiere a que era una gran mujer, o una mujer que no actuaba como mujer. En ambos casos, tal vez:

    Ella no era lo que se podría decir una chica, en los estruendosos 20's

    Ela era una gran chica en los estruendosos 20's

    It means that she lived a wild social life. "a bit of a" is an idiom"

    "He was a bit of a lad"
    "He was a bit of a Romeo"


    You can also use it in a purely derogatory sense
    "She was a bit of a whore"
    "He was a bit of a bastard"
    "That child is a bit of a nuisance."
