A blind man found//pick up a bill of 1,000

< Previous | Next >

Once upon a time, there was this blind man who was walking on a city street and found//picked up a bill of NT 1,000 dollars by chance. The moment he was sure that the bill was genuine, instead of laughing, he burst into tears ...

The above is a story told by my teacher in elementary school, and I translated it into English. Does it sound good? Should I use "found" or "picked up" in the context? Thanks.

If you say "picked up", it almost suggests to me that he was picking up objects at random, and just happened to pick up the bill whilst doing so.

I think "found" is the more logical choice.
